swedish national parks
postcards, Broschüre und Fotobuch
=> in Deutsch
I have done it! After 13 years and many weeks of holiday I have now seen and hiked through all of the 30 national parks of Sweden.
In the year 2006 I was the first time in Sweden with my two sons. We travelled by car and slept in our tent. We were two weeks in Småland and have visited the national park Store Mosse. There the idea was created to explore all of the parks. In the year after we hiked through some of the southern parks and the plan was getting more concrete: I decided to visit every park and create two postcards of every park. One in landscape format as a panorama (21 x 10,5 cm) and one in the normal poscard format (10,5 x 14,8 cm) but upright format. Now after 13 years of travelling I have finished my project. The postcards are created and I also designed a brochure (format A5) and an illustrated book (format 27 x 21cm).
The illustrated book is in three languages: German, Swedish and English. The postcards, the brochure and the book are printed in a small series in own publishing.

I travelled two or sometimes three times to some parks until I got the perfect shots for my project. I had just my holiday and the way there was long so I was limited in time. That is why the photos are mostly moments which captured a special athmosphere and emotions. Due to my holidays were terminated, we did not know for example if the boattrip to Blå Jungfrun or Haparanda Skärgård will take place and if the weather conditions will be alright. This summer I had 7 weeks to visit the last national parks. To be this long in Lappland was an intensive experience. We lived in pair in our bus and had now really time to wait for the perfect weather and were rewarded for this. For example the tremendous cloud images and the thunderstorm-athmosphere in Pieljekaise.
The soft light and the width of the landscape and the silence are facinating me and the desire for this will always getting me to the north!
Välkommen till Nationalparkerna i Sverige
Since 1999 the 24th of May is standing for the day of the european parks. This initiative goes back to the Federation of Nature and National Parks of Europe (EUROPARC). In this 1973 founded NGO are the responsible for the management for most of the european protective areas combined. That is why EUROPARC has 400 members in 35 countries. Why is this day on the 24th of May? On this day, in the year 1909, the first national parks were founded in sweden. In the year 2020 it is the 111. Day of Parks.
Back then, so as today, was the plan to secure the untouched nature for the people of now and future generations. Since then nature protection has changed. Today the goal is to protect and use the nature in a sustainable way. For us as invidual beings but also the whole society applies that we need to use the valuable nature with caution. The 30 swedish national parks have a area of around 7000 square kilometers. This is around 1.5% of the whole country. The parks should be nature which is specific fort he swedish landscape to protect this in its natural condition. For all people the way tot he parks should be open. That is way most of the parks have marked hiking paths. The 30. National park was founded and dedicated in 2018.
